The Household Is the Soft Flank

Off the Radar · Lesson 9 of 10

Watch the field rule first. The written version is right below it.

The Easiest Person Attached to Your Address

Everything you have done so far, you did for one person. An adversary has no reason to accept that limit. They work whoever is easiest to reach, and the easiest person attached to your address is very rarely you.

Whatever protection exists usually travels with one person. The spouse driving to work and the child walking to class have none of it. They carry the same address, the same surname, and the same front door, with none of the hardening and none of the awareness that you now have.

New Jersey's Daniel's Law protects home addresses and unlisted phone numbers for a defined class of officials, and it extends that protection to immediate household family, not only to the covered official. It reads that way for a reason. The attack on Judge Salas's home killed her son, not her.

Run the Audit Outward

So run the same audit outward. Your address gets re-published through the people attached to it. A spouse's professional listing. A relative's public profile naming your town. A package signed for at your door. Anyone at all who lists your home as their work address.

That last one matters more than people expect. A housekeeper, a nanny, a caregiver, a contractor. They hold your address in their own records, on their own accounts, under their own habits, and almost nobody has ever asked them about it. So ask. Politely, and specifically.

Close the Credit Door on the Children

Then close the credit door on the children. A parent, guardian, conservator, or holder of a valid power of attorney can place a free security freeze on a child under 16. No evidence of misuse is required. No credit history is required either.

A child with no accounts and no credit history is not automatically out of reach, and nobody in the family is checking that file. Place the freeze now and it simply waits until the day they need credit. The household is the part people finish last. That is exactly why it is the flank.

Take the baseline you wrote in Lesson 2 and run it again, once per household member. Same named list, same records, same written result. It costs an evening and it is the highest-yield repeat pass in this course.

Knowledge Check

Where does your address get re-published?

Your own exposure reduction is done and it held. Which two records are most likely to put your home address back into public view through somebody else attached to it?
